The newest member of Sickamore’s storied The Famous Firm team, the Newark-based rapper has quickly begun to establish a strong street presence on the strength of his singles and fresh, streetwear influenced style of dress. Neako is an artist in the truest sense of the word and shows a remarkable devotion to his craft. He reveals his complexities, drives, and ambitions with the Fall 2007 release of his official mixtape debut, “Rubix Cube Series Vol. 1: The Red Side,” hosted by Sickamore and produced almost entirely by Neako himself. Read Haizy’s interview with the 21 year old Neako.

Haizy: Ok Neako, I see you reppin my town “Brick City”….Let the readers know Where you from & Where your headed Neako?

Neako: I’m from Newark, NJ… Hoodaville section, you know. And I’m heading to the top.

Haizy: So tell us a little about your music. Where does your inspiration come from? How long have you been rapping for?

Neako: I’ve been rapping since the age of 12. My inspiration comes from my surroundings and everything that happens around me.

Haizy: So I hear your one of the newest members to the “I Can Make You Famous” firm, how did you meet Sickamore (Director of A&R at Atlantic Records)? I am sure a lot of up and coming artist are trying to get with him, so how did that happen?

Neako: Well actually it all happen thru my myspace. I had a pretty female friend of mine put all my music, pictures, etc on her page. She gave me her password and let me send him notes everyday lol. He responded and we went from there. It took over a year because we lost contact a few times. But I stayed on him.

Haizy: What else can your fans expect from Neako in 2008?

Neako: Just expect great music… and a dynamic album.

Haizy: Who’s some of your favorite artist right now and why?

Neako: Kanye, Jezzy, Lupe, new artist ATL name Muffy. I like the type they are.

Haizy: In Closing do you have any final thoughts you want the people to know about Neako?

Neako: Stay focused, stay positive.
